Firefox Web Browser

Add-on Extensions

I have been using the Firefox web browser

for quite a few years now.

Firefox is free to download and use.

Before that, I used the Netscape browser;

which, originally, was known as “MOSAIC.”

(MOSAIC was the very first Web browser.

It was developed in 1993

by Marc Andreesen and fellow students at

the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.)

Firefox is made by the same

“Mozilla” organization responsible for

the original Netscape browser.

(You can download Firefox via this URL.):

Must-have Firefox Add-on Extensions:

NoScript   -  The best security you can get in a web browser! Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS and Clickjacking attacks.  Winner of the "2006 PC World World Class Award", this tool provides extra protection to your Firefox.  It allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from trusted domains of your choice, e.g. your home-banking web site, guarding your "trust boundaries" against cross-site scripting attacks (XSS), cross-zone DNS rebinding / CSRF attacks (router hacking), and Clickjacking attempts, thanks to its unique ClearClick technology. It also implements the DoNotTrack tracking opt-out proposal by default, see .  Such a preemptive approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even unknown!) with no loss of functionality... - [NOTE:  Either use NoScript or the easier-to-use, but less defensively comprehensive QuickJava…(see item next for QJ info.)]

Block scripts in Firefox
The NoScript add-on
will give you
some extra control
and protection against
malicious scripts
and ads.

(2-1/2 min. - YouTube audio/video)

QuickJava  -  Allows quick enable and disable of Java, Javascript, Flash, Silverlight and Images from the Statusbar and/or Toolbar without having to open any dialogs!

BetterPrivacy  -  Safeguard which protects you from usually not deletable LSOs (local shared objects  [aka: “super cookies”] ) used by Google, YouTube, Ebay, etc.

uBlock Origin  - An efficient Ad-blocker.  Easy on CPU and memory.  -  [Could/should be used either as a replacement for -- or, in addition to -- AdBlock Plus.]

Do Not Track Plus (aka: Blur)  -  Stops secret tracking of your web browsing.  Do Not Track Plus blocks web beacons and other tracking technologies that advertisers use to track your browsing behavior. Easily see what trackers are in use at each website you visit and block any or all of them.

ShareMeNot - Privacy Add-On For Firefox Web Browser - Did you know that social media buttons allow Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and others to track your online browsing activities on every site that includes one of these buttons, even if you never click the buttons and (in some browsers) even if you have third-party cookies disabled?

ShareMeNot is a Firefox add-on designed to prevent third-party buttons (such as the Facebook “Like” button or the Twitter “tweet” button) embedded by sites across the Internet from tracking you until you actually click on them. Unlike traditional solutions, ShareMeNot does this without completely removing the buttons from the web experience.

Disconnect’ - And, The Sooner The Better! - On his Jan. 9, 2013, ‘Security Now!’ podcast, Steve Gibson highly recommended the ‘Disconnect’ plug-in/add-on for all Firefox, Safari and/or Chrome users.  He noted that it stops those social-networking widgets (thumbnail icons) buttons that are now ubiquitous on the vast majority of web pages from cookie-tracking -- and profiling -- you wherever, and everywhere, you go across the Internet.  He further noted that that when you visit ANY web page that merely has those widget icons present ALL the various social network sites (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.) automatically are tracking you...whether or not you actually click any of those icon buttons.  He additionally  noted that not only is it a privacy (profiling) issue, but that it is as big a security hole threat as Firesheep is/was...especially if you utilize any public Wi-Fi! --- Steve said that Disconnect is an adjunct to ‘Ghostery’...and other similar such as ‘Do No Track’...and does not replace it/them.  ---  [Note: You'll need to "Temporarily allow..." in/with ‘NoScript’ in Firefox to download and install ‘Disconnect’.  -- Bike Bob]:  -

Pure URL  -  This add-on automatically removes all garbage like "utm_source=*" from URLs. These fields are provided for the Google Analytics and they are not a necessity.

Add-on Update Checker  -  Adds Tools menu item to check Add-ons for updates.
